Scotiabank BBQ raising funds for Friendship Centre Summer Camp

Scotiabank is helping out the Lloydminster Friendship Centre by raising funds for its Children’s Summer Camp. The local bank is hosting a barbecue with all donations going back to the youth camp.

“It was awesome of them to connect with us and to think of the centre as an organization worthy of supporting,” says Executive Director Bonnie Start.

During the camp, local youth have the opportunity to partake in several activities around Lloydminster such as the Bio Aquatic Centre and Lloyd Lanes. Meals and transportation will be provided to youth during the camp that takes place from Monday to Friday from July to August.

“We charge nominal registration fees and in case of need we wave the fee,” Start believes the event fills a gap within the community. “It provides an opportunity for children to take part in summer activities where they may not be able to in other situations.”

The camp has two age groups, with the “Bear Cubs” ranging from ages 5 to 8 and the “Eagles” ranging from ages 9 to 12,  to better accommodate the participants with specific activities.

Customer Experience Lead for Scotiabank Lloydminster Jessaca Laboret says the fundraiser is looking to help youth, whose families might not have the financial means, still be able to participate in the summer activities.

“That’s an experience every kid should have.”

The barbecue will take place on June 14 from 11 am to 2 pm. Residents will be able to grab a hotdog and a pop for a minimum donation of $3. Scotiabank will be matching up to $3000 of the proceeds for the Children’s Summer Camp.
