Man arrested after traffic stop results in drug seizure

A man is facing charges after a traffic stop turned into a drug seizure.

In the afternoon of Tuesday, September 15, Vegreville RCMP pulled over a man known to have outstanding arrest warrants. The man was arrested on his warrants, and the officer was preparing to tow the vehicle when he smelled the odour of marijuana. A search uncovered 171 grams of the drug.

“It is not uncommon for officers conducting traffic enforcement to come across drugs in vehicles,” said Constable Curtis Harsulla of the Vegreville RCMP Traffic Services Section. “However, this is a significantly larger amount than what is usually seen and we are happy to have it off the streets of our communities.”

47-year-old Mark Parson of Mundare faces new charges of possession of marijuana, driving without holding a license, and breaching conditions requiring him not to be in possession of drugs. He will appear in court on Monday, September 21.
