Five charged in Laverdiere’s death appear in court

Two suspects in the death of Tiki Brook-Lyn Laverdiere appeared in court today. Twenty-three-year-old Jesse Sangster is charged with accessory after the fact to murder and theft of a murder vehicle. Nicole cook, 36, is also charged with first degree murder, improperly tampering with a human body, kidnapping and theft of a motor vehicle.

Both were remanded into custody until their next court appearance on August 30. The two were arrested by police last week. Cook is the mother of Tristen Nicholas Morningeagle Cook-Buckle, who’s funeral Laverdiere was attending in North Battleford. A total of five people are charged in relation to Laverdiere’s death.

Twenty-seven-year-old Shayla Orthner and 32-year-old Danita Thomas with first-degree murder, improperly interfering with human remains, kidnapping and theft of a vehicle. Eighteen-year-old Brent Checkosis is also charged with accessory to murder after the fact, improperly tampering with a human body and theft of a motor vehicle. Orthner, Thomas and Checkosis are set to appear in court on September 6.
