Saskatchewan and Alberta switch places as unemployment rates in the Border City show the western region sitting higher than the east.
The Alberta side’s region of Camrose-Drumheller saw unemployment fall to 6.4 per cent, which is significant from the previous rate of 7.2 per cent. The Alberta side of the border city drops to the lowest unemployment rate in the province after months of the region sitting with the highest. As a whole, Alberta sits at a 6.8 per cent unemployment rate for the month of July.
In Saskatchewan, the Prince Albert and Northern Saskatchewan region saw a small rise in unemployment. The region currently sits at 6.9 per cent, which is a 2 point rise from the month prior. The region still remains the highest unemployment rate in the province. Saskatchewan remains steady compared to last month sitting at 5.4 per cent as a whole.
After an increase in June, Alberta saw a decline in full-time employment by 14,000 in July. Employment decreased notably in accommodation and food services as well as in natural resources.
