Lloydminster resident becomes first millionaire out of Gold Horse Casino

A Lloydminster resident has become the first millionaire to come out of Gold Horse Casino. Brenda Lloyd won just over $1.8 million after winning the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority’s Smoke Signals jackpot on August. 6.

From retiring as a banker in February 2018 to taking care of her husband before he passed, Lloyd says her path over the past year has led her to today and she looks to enjoy her winnings.

“I think we will go on a nice family vacation, maybe Christmas time, I am not really sure, that’s the plan. I haven’t really thought past that.”

SIGA and Gold Horse Casino celebrated Lloyd’s new title as a Saskatchewan millionaire on August 9. Lloyd says it took her a moment to realize she had won, she thought it was someone else.

“I came here all by myself and I’ve never been to the casino by myself in my life, so I had no one here to help me celebrate, well I mean of course there was a lot of people around. It was pretty amazing.”

General Manager Roger Anderson believes it’s an exciting time for employees and the community to witness the first win exceeding a million dollars at the Gold Horse Casino.

“It’s hard to explain the feelings. For us as an organization to give back to a lady like Brenda, it makes you feel very special. I am filled with emotions right now.”

The SIGA-wide progressive slot machine, Smoke Signals, links 51 slot machines at all seven casinos. The mystery jackpot increases over time through three tiers with a minimum value of $1 million and a payout before $2 million, which can be won at Gold Horse Casino or Gold Eagle Casino in North Battleford.
