Local producers ready for harvest: Sask. Crop Report

Local producers are expected to begin harvest in the coming weeks, according to Saskatchewan’s weekly crop report.  Farmers are reporting pulse crops are showing maturity across the northwest region, which includes Lloydminster.

Little rain was received between August 6 to August 12. The Turtleford area continues to have the most precipitation accumulated since April 1, sitting at 357 millimetres.

Due to the lack of rain, topsoil moisture conditions slightly declined this week. Cropland topsoil moisture is rated as 89 per cent adequate and 10 per cent short. Hay land and pasture topsoil moisture is rated as 79 per cent adequate and 21 per cent short.

Livestock producers have worked with the weather to make great haying progress. No significant crop damages have been reported this week.

Farmers are busy haying, hauling grain and getting equipment ready for harvest.
