Lloydminster Region Health Foundation set to kick off annual gala

The Lloydminster Regional Health Foundation’s annual Health Gala is set to start Friday, October 2.

The gala is in its 15th year, and this year will have the theme Cirque des Reves, which means Cicus of Dreams.

Pamela Smith, chair of the Gala Committee says guest will have a unique experience.

“It is going to [have] traditional black and white tents, we have a splash of red, and as our guests walk in, they’re going to see the spectacular view,” Smith said. “We’re going to have circus acts performing as they walk in, so we’ll have jugglers, and flamethrowers, that kind of thing. They get to choose [from] two areas within our venue for specialty drinks. We have some professionals coming from Saskatoon, that are very entertaining, in our specialty bar.”

Smith also says that there will be live music during dinner from local band Tangerine, and an after-dinner concert from Famous Players out of Vancouver. Guests will also have a chance to bid on items in live and silent auctions.

Wendy Plandowski, CEO of the health foundation, says they have an ambitious goal this year.

“We’re actually looking to enhance dialysis offerings in [the] Lloydminster region,” Plandowski said. “We currently have a very small dialysis area in the Lloydminster Hospital, and we are hoping to kick off a relocation campaign. Right now we can only serve five people with dialysis with the current setup, so we’re actively working with our two partners, Alberta Health [Services], and Prairie North Health [Region], to see if we can provide a much better space for dialysis. So our overall goal for the health foundation [over the course of the year] is actually $1.5 million.”

Plandowski also says that the gala has been successful as a fundraiser, raising $2.2 million over the past 14 years.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m.
