The Lloydminster Regional Health Foundation is getting some help from twenty-five local doctors. The Health Foundation received a $25,000 cheque on September 3 from the physicians with each giving $1,000.
The donation makes the doctors the largest sponsors for the 19th Annual Health Foundation Gala. One of the doctors, Mark Akerman says they want to be more involved in the community they live in.
“The citizens of Lloydminster and surrounding area have always been incredibly generous with their donations to the Health Foundation to improve health care in the region. The doctors of Lloydminster can now show that we are also willing to put our money forward and not only provide care but also donate to the foundation because we all support the good work that they do,” says Akerman.
The Health Foundation Gala will take place on October 18 with proceeds going towards the Lloydminster Dialysis Unit relocation. The dialysis unit will be moved from the Lloydminster Hospital and into the Health Foundation offices on 50 Street. Akerman says the move will free up space in the hospital for more patient beds and other services.
Health Foundation CEO, Malcolm Radke says the relocation has been years in the making with many people advocating for the move for years.
“For many families, it is so exciting to see this project come to life, and to see their local doctors getting behind it,” says Radke.
The Health Foundation has raised over $280,000 and have a goal of $1.23 million for the project.
