A Battleford RCMP constable is under investigation for excessive force and assault allegations.
A 40-year-old man was arrested by a Battleford RCMP constable for public disturbance on May 14.
A second constable came to assist with the arrest and according to the RCMP, the second officer got into a physical altercation with the man while he was handcuffed and lying on the ground.
The man did not report any injuries from the incident.
Complaints were made by the public and within the RCMP about the level of force used in the incident. After review, Battlefords RCMP ordered an investigation into the incident on August 16.
The officer is currently suspended with pay while Saskatchewan RCMP and Prince Albert Police Service review the incident under federal and provincial law.
The Prince Albert Police Service will look into the circumstances of the incident while Saskatchewan RCMP will conduct a code of conduct investigation into the use of excessive force.
