Lloydminster unemployment rates sit drastically different on both sides

Lloydminster’s unemployment rates fell slightly on both sides of the city last month. Even though both sides of the Border City found jobs last month,  the Alberta side sits more than two full percentage points less than the Saskatchewan side.

The Alberta economic region of Camrose-Drumheller saw its unemployment rate fall to 5.1 per cent from 5.6 per cent in August. That rate is not adjusted for seasonal employment. The region also continues to hire more than other areas in Alberta.  Last month, Camrose-Drumheller has had the highest employment in the province after having the lowest from April to June 2019.

Meanwhile, the Prince Albert and Northern region in Saskatchewan found more employment in September after seeing a huge drop in jobs in August. The region sat at 7.2 per cent, unadjusted for seasonality which is a 0.3 per cent drop from August. The region has had the highest unemployment rate in the province for the past six months.

Overall, employment in Alberta and Saskatchewan stayed steady in September. Nationally, the unemployment rate declined 0.2 percentage points to 5.5 per cent for September.
