Local youth building their resume from community supper

Lloydminster youth will be learning valuable food service skills in November.

The third Chef’s Got Your Back event is taking place on Tuesday, November 19, at the Lloydminster Community Youth Centre with help from the Lloydminster Interval Home Society.

Youths will be greeting guests and serving the meal. They also learn skills such as customer service, food safety practices and hospitality skills. Michealine Huard, manager at the LCYC, believes this is a great opportunity for the youth.

“Chef’s Got Your Back is an event that we have created to support and help youth learn valuable life skills and gain some culinary experience. We raise awareness about some of the programs that we have and the impact that we have on the Lloydminster youth.”

At the previous events, German cuisine and a mixture of various cuisine was served. This next event will be serving turkey.

“We are actually providing the turkeys. Volunteers and staff that work at the Interval Store are providing the labour, and we’ve had personal donations for potatoes and corn and stuffing.”

Huard explains the donations collected from the event goes towards the LCYC hot meals that are served on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings. It will also go towards the centre’s safe ride program, that offers rides from school to the centre and from the centre to their homes.

The event is by donations only and anyone who wants to attend has to RSVP

The Lloydminster Interval Home and the Lloydminster Community Youth Centre are already planning the next Chef’s Got Your Back event for January.
