Lloydminster Legion receives funds for roof repairs

The Lloydminster Legion is almost halfway to its funding goal for roof repairs with the help of the community, and the Government of Saskatchewan. The organization’s most recent donations came from last week’s “Raise the Roof” event.

After patching up the roof over the past couple of years, the Legion decided to fully repair the damages after the spring caused heavy flooding within the building.

President of the Lloydminster Royal Canadian Legion #39, Richard Dixon says the $140,000 roof repair is crucial in the organization’s contribution to the community.

“We keep going so that we can operate for the community. We reach out and help support veterans and first responders in our community and other different organizations within the company that help others.”

Along with their fundraiser, the Legion was a recipient of last month’s 100 Men Lloydminster donation of $3,500. The Lloydminster branch has also benefitted from the government of Saskatchewan’s Veterans Service Club Support Program. The Legion received $5,000 from the grant program to assist with the roof repairs.

“We’re so thrilled that we receive grants, stuff that helps us function day-to-day, and, again to help us support our community.”

Dixon says the facility is in need of many other repairs such as coolers, cabinets and countertops.
