Few days left to register for Salvation Army Christmas Hamper

The Lloydminster Salvation Army is wrapping up their Christmas Hamper program and is taking in last-minute applications to receive a hamper.

The Christmas Hamper provides food and toys to families who aren’t able to afford dinner over the holidays.

The last day to apply is November 14 and the application can be found at their building on 2302 53 Avenue from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Those interested will need to bring a photo ID, a piece of mail with their name and address and their children’s health care cards.

Bobbi Oyerinde, Community and Family Case Worker, says the program is a partnership between the Salvation Army and the Olive Tree who will be providing toys for the hampers.

Oyerinde says the organization is also taking in donations of non-perishable foods which will go towards the hampers.

“Every single bit of donation helps whether it’s one can or a case, it doesn’t matter. Every single bit helps.”

She says some traditional holiday food items like stuffing aren’t as plentiful as the usual items and monetary donations will go towards buying things like turkeys for the hampers.

“In our community, there are many families who cannot afford to provide a Christmas dinner for their family and don’t have the extra money to buy gifts for their children. The Salvation Army wants to provide aid to those families through the Christmas season.”

Hampers will be handed out from December 17 to 19.
