“Fair Deal” panel stops in Lloydminster to hear from residents

Lloydminster will be the closest stop for surrounding area residents who want their voice heard in the provincial government’s “Fair Deal Panel”.  The UCP government announced the panel in order to expand on ideas such as provincial jurisdiction and economic interests with Albertans.

Residents can head to town hall sessions to share their vision for how Alberta can achieve a fairer deal with stops in places like Edmonton, Red Deer, Calgary and Lloydminster on January 13th.

Some of the ideas the government has thrown around include creating an Albertan Pension Plan instead of contributing to the federal plan in place as well as establishing a provincial police force and ending the Alberta Police Service Agreement with the Government of Canada.

The government looks to also explore establishing a provincial revenue agency to collect provincial taxes directly by ending the Canada-Alberta Tax Collection Agreement.

Panel members include former federal Reform Party leader and former Leader of the Opposition Preston Manning and professor at the University of Alberta Faculty of Law Moin Yahya.
