SPCA raises money through inmates bail

Local community members spent some time behind bars.

On Thursday, December 12, the annual Jail and Bail took place. Becca Lawrence, Community Outreach Manager, says $9,300 was raised with more money expected to come into the SPCA over the weekend.

“Our Jail and Bail is when we lock up our local celebrities or business owners, business representatives, and even a couple volunteers joined us this year. Basically anyone that wants to come in and hang out in the kennels as inmates and then raise money for their bail.”

After about ten years of Jail and Bail, the SPCA is planning on moving the event to mid or late October instead of December.

Even after raising money at the event, the SPCA is always in need. They go through many old blankets, sheets and towels. Blankets are used in dog kennels, so they have something soft underneath them when they are laying around or sleeping. Towels are used in the cat kennels, underneath their beds. Lawrence mentions towels and blankets make cleaning up much easier, especially with puppies.

“We accept food donations like dog, cat, wet and dry food. Toys, litter, laundry detergent, all those basic things that we typically do have to go out and buy.”

If anyone wants to make a donation to the SPCA, call them at 780-875-2804 or online.
