UPDATE: Frenchman Butte death being investigated as a homicide

UPDATE: RCMP is investigating the death of the man as a homicide.

The victim is 26-year-old Braeden Alfred James Sparvier and next of kin has been notified. The Saskatchewan Coroners Service is conducting an autopsy to find the cause of death.

The two kilometre stretch along Township Road 542 in the RM of Frenchman Butte is still blocked off for an unknown amount of time and traffic will be re-routed.

Turtleford RCMP has labelled the death of a male found outside of the RM of Frenchman Butte as suspicious. The investigation began after RCMP received reports of the male on New Year’s Day.

As of 11 a.m. on January 2, two kilometres along Township Road 542 in the RM of Frenchman Butte is blocked off during the investigation. A number of specialized RCMP teams have been deployed to the Turtleford detachment area to assist in identifying the male and determining the cause of death.

RCMP says an autopsy will take place in the next couple of days. No further details will be released as the investigation is still in the preliminary stages. Updates will be released as they come in.
