Accused in Tiki Laverdiere homicide receives 2021 trial date

A trial date has been set for one of the eight people accused in the death of Tiki Brook-Lyn Laverdiere.

An eight-week trial has been scheduled for January 2021 for Nikita Cook who is facing charges including first-degree murder.

25-year-old Laverdiere was reported missing in May after travelling to North Battleford to attend the funeral of  Tristen Cook-Buckle. Nicole Cook is the mother of Tristen Cook-Buckle.

Crown Prosecutor Chris Browne says the amount of time reserved is needed due to the complexity of the case.

Last month, another of the accused, Brent Checkosis, pleaded guilty to three charges including interfering with a human body in connection to Laverdiere’s homicide.
