The Interval Home Society is one step closer to their goal in their Bridging the Gap campaign thanks in part to the Home Depot’s Orange Door fundraiser.
The Lloydminster Home Depot raised over $14,776 during the month of December with all of it going towards the Interval Home’s expansion project. The store collected over $7,300 in donations which the Home Depot Foundation matched for being one of the top earners in the country.
“This company is based on eight core values and one of the big ones is giving back,” says Store Manager Duane Brown. “This store has been phenomenal in the way they jump on and live and breathe that value. This store ended up being the second-highest participation rate in all of Canada for customers and associates in participating in giving back to our community.”
Home Depot runs the Orange Door campaign twice a year with all proceeds used to combat youth homelessness. The money raised will go towards Bridging the Gap which aims to expand the shelter to include 12 more beds. Leanne Wildeman, Resource Development Manager, says the project costs $415,000 to complete and will bring up the total amount of beds to 33.
“It’s very important to know that businesses and partners like the Home Depot store here locally and the foundation nationally is really looking out for our youth. They are there to support the challenges they see throughout their lifetime and the partnership with the Youth Centre is key.”
Wildeman says the expansion is needed as they have to turn away 6 women and children from their shelter a day. Brown says the two organizations have had a great partnership with some of the store staff helping out on other Interval Home projects.
“Home Depot Foundation is all about dealing with youth homelessness. The Interval Home Society and the Youth Centre and their involvement in those projects are exactly what we’re a part of and it means so much to be in with them.”
The Interval Home also received another $25,000 from Home Depot through a grant program. The grant will go towards funding programs at the Lloydminster Community Youth Centre.
