Brush off your bowling skills in support of Big Brother Big Sisters

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lloydminster continues to put the ‘fun’ in a fundraiser with one of their biggest of the year.

Registration for Bowl for Kids’ Sake 2020 is now open for families with all funds going towards the organization’s child mentoring programs.

Director of Service Delivery Jacqueline Weed says with the agency being centred around kids, that’s the focal point when coming up with an event.

“It’s an easy fit for us. We try to incorporate the kids into everything that we do. When we make decisions for the agency when we plan events, it’s what we do, we work with kids.”

“It’s just easy for people to get behind. You’re just going bowling for an hour, you’re collecting pledges which is easy to do, because it’s a $50 minimum pledge, pick your time slot and then you just bowl. You get prizes, it’s fun and it ties in well with kids.”

For the past 17 years, Weed says that the average amount raised through Bowl for Kids’ Sake is around $35,000 every year. About $100,000 of the local organization’s annual budget is raised through fundraisers.

The community has a long commitment to the agency’s event, according to Weed. She says most of the corporate sponsors have supported the event for many years as well as teams who take part in the event year after year.

“We have four local schools that take part in Wii bowling each year. The kids in those schools get to participate in giving back to the event as well because those are the schools we provide our in-school mentoring program or some of those kids come to our after school program. They’re able to help support the services they use in the school.”

With 39 teams registering last year, Weed says the goal for this year is to exceed that number.  Anyone looking to register can contact Big Brothers Big Sister at 306-825-5757.
