Local youth choose to support the Lloydminster Interval Home, which assists children in emergency situations. The 100 Youth Who Care had their first meeting of 2020 on February 28th and raised $600 to donate to one of three non-profit organizations.
The fourth meeting of the initiative featured presentations by the Interval Home, Big Brother Big Sisters of Lloydminster and the Men’s Shelter. The local children chose the Interval Home after hearing about the work the organization does to support children when they come to the Emergency Shelter.
Janice Haughian, accompanied by her son and founder of 100+ Youths Jordy Haughian, says it’s incredible to see the community to take a break from their busy lives to support local charities.
“The more people that learn about it and come, they keep telling more people, it’s been spreading by families realizing what we’re doing here and seeing how incredible it is for their kids to have an impact,” says Janice
“Learn compassion and empathy, learn to give back to the community,” says Jordy who believes it’s important for local youth to have a voice in the community.
The 100 Youth Who Care is made of local youths who donate $10 at every meeting. Janice says the initiative will continue to grow moving forward.
“We would love to add [more ways] for the kids to do good in the community. There are so many opportunities for them to give back in different ways. I think it’s important for them to be a part of that.”
The group meets three times a year and will hold its next donation event in May.
