Lloydminster unemployment rates rise in Alberta, fall in Saskatchewan

Unemployment rates in Lloydminster saw a big jump on the Alberta side while in Saskatchewan it remains steady. 

The Alberta economic region of Camrose-Drumheller saw a rise of over a full percentage point to 6.4 per cent in the jobless rate from 5.1 in January. The rate is not adjusted for seasonal employment. The unemployment rate in the region is the highest it’s been in the past six months.

On the Saskatchewan side, Prince Albert and Northern region sit at 5.6 per cent, unadjusted for seasonality. Unemployment rates saw a small jump in the region in January to 6 per cent but remained steady at 5.7 since November.

Overall, employment in Alberta and Saskatchewan had little change but Alberta benefitted from an employment increase of 11,000 among youth.

Nationally, employment increased by 30,000 in February with more people working in wholesale and retail trades, manufacturing and culture and recreation. The unemployment rate jumped up 0.1 per cent to 5.6 per cent last month.
