Man charged with attempted murder after Wainwright convenience store fight

A 26-year-old man is facing several weapons and an attempted murder charge after hitting another man with a hatchet in Wainwright.

Wainwright RCMP received a call of an injured man at a convenience store on 10 Street on March 10 sometime around 7:15 a.m.

Police say the man had serious non-life threatening injuries and was transported to an Edmonton hospital by EMS.

Mounties say, allegedly, another man at the store hit the victim with a hatchet after a “verbal exchange.” RCMP found the suspect and arrested him without incident. The hatchet was seized and no one else was injured.

Nick Pollard of Cadogan was charged with five offences including attempted murder, aggravated assault and assault with a weapon.

He remains in custody and will appear in Wainwright Provincial Court on March 19.
