LPSD and LCSD prepare for closures by the end of the week

Both Lloydminster school divisions are following the Government of Saskatchewan recommendations to close schools by March 20.

The province announced classes will wind down during the week with full closures beginning on Friday as a proactive measure against COVID-19.

Lloydminster Catholic School Division will have their schools open until March 18 but recommend students to stay home. Busses will run but some routes may be cancelled and the division will be providing more information on their website. Staff has begun grading all assignments given to date and will prepare suggestions for learning at home including programs and websites.

The Catholic division will also be providing access to counselling teams to help provide materials on having conversations with children about the virus.

Lloydminster Public School Division is asking parents to keep children at home from March 17 to 19 if possible. They say there will be no grade impact or absences recorded. School will stay open until the end of the school day on Thursday to accommodate families finding childcare.

LPSD buses will continue running as scheduled and the schools will be contacting parents in the next 24 hours on how to pick up their child’s belongings. Student led conferences have been cancelled.

Students eligible to graduate this year in both divisions will graduate and all students will move on to the next grade level in the fall. Both divisions will be working with the government to implement supplemental curriculum through distance and alternative learning methods. Teachers and school staff will be communicating with families to provide more information on plans for their children.
