138 new cases of COVID-19 recorded in Alberta as province expands testing

COVID-19 cases in Alberta continue to rise as 138 new cases have been reported in the province.

A total of 1870 cases of novel coronavirus have been reported. Thirty seven more cases are being considered recovered raising the total recoveries to 914.

There are another two deaths in the province. One at the McKenzie Towne continuing care facility in Calgary and one in Shepherd’s Care Kensington Village in Edmonton. Forty-eight people have died in relation to COVID-19.

Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw says Albertans should expect to see a rise in positive cases in the coming days as testing has increased. She says AHS will focus testing in high risk areas such as Calgary.

The number of cases in the Central zone remains at 74 after two additional cases were found yesterday. One person in the County of Vermilion River has recovered and one person on the Alberta side of Lloydminster has recovered.

Over 82,000 tests have been conducted in the province with 7,300 of them done in the Central zone.

The Government of Alberta has also announced $3 million will be given to Caregiver Alberta to expand support. The non-profit organization provides support programs and resources to caregivers in the province.

The toll-free caregiver advisor line at 1-877-453-5088 is currently available for all caregivers and those caring for someone in isolation with or without COVID-19.
