Canada Day and other City of Lloydminster run events cancelled

Canada Day celebrations in Lloydminster have been cancelled along with other large city run events planned in the spring and summer.

The following events have been cancelled:

  • Canada Day (July 1)
  • Streetfest (June 27)
  • Pet Expo (June 13 – 15)
  • Summer Fun Camps (June through August)
  • Heritage Day (August 3)

Mayor Gerald Aalbers says planning and executing large events is difficult for the city due to public gathering limits still in effect.

“Cancellation of these popular spring and summer events represents yet another dilemma our municipality has grappled with since the pandemic began; however, public safety remains our utmost priority. We have come so far in our collective battle against COVID-19, we must continue to protect each other until the battle is won.”

Aalbers thanks staff and volunteers who were already working on planning the events and looks forward to their return once the pandemic is over.

Lloydminster residents are encouraged to take part in the Virtual Canada Day celebration, hosted by the Federal Ministry of Canadian Heritage.
