Heavy Oil Show postponed to 2021

The Board of Directors for the 2020 Lloydminster O.T.S. Heavy Oil Show have decided to hold out on the event until next year.

The showcase scheduled for this September will now be held at the Lloydminster Agriculture Exhibition on September 15 and 16, 2021. The decision was made due to safety and health concerns associated with COVID-19.

Mayor Gerald Aalbers sits on the show’s board of directors and says he’s disappointed to postpone the show but it had to be done. Aalbers says planning for the show, which runs every two years, begins shortly after the previous one wraps up.

“We have to be realistic about where we’re at today and what we’re facing with COVID and if the restrictions are lifted. We can’t plan an oil show in two weeks and expect people to be there and have exhibitors in place and all the logistics.”

Chairman John Stanyer echoes the disappointment and hopes for better things in the future.

“We are deeply disappointed to postpone this year’s show but we are looking forward to 2021 and the continued transformation within the heavy oil industry. Covid won’t keep us down.”

The show has been around since 1984 and brings in oil companies from around the world to show off new technology and innovation in heavy oil development and production.
