Co-op showing love to community heroes during COVID-19 pandemic

The Lloydminster and District Co-op is inviting the community to show some love to local heroes during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Co-op Helps program,  a Western-Canada-wide initiative by Federated Co-operatives Limited, asks residents to nominate anyone in the community who have made a positive impact. Some of these stories will be selected to win $100 gift Co-op cards from the FCL office.

Lloydminster and District Co-op CEO Leanne Hawes says she’s heard some inspiring stories from this initiative already.

“Some of the stories that are popping up are exceptional. People in the community who are helping neighbours, teachers who are going above and beyond to make sure the students still get the care they need. Nurses, doctors, even their office staff who are still helping to run their locations. People who are really exhibiting high levels of kindness, sharing and community sense.”

When someone is nominated, the stories are sent up to the FCL head offices, where finalists will be selected. Nominations opened on May 5th and will continue until May 19th. Hawes says as the gift cards are given out, a lot of the stories will be publicly recognised.

“Across Western Canada, there will be a thousand $100 gift cards given out and you can probably watch to see a lot of those stories come out as well.”

Nomination can be made on the FCL website.
