Lloydminster hosting ESSO Cup shifted to 2022

Lloydminster will not host the Women’s Hockey ESSO Cup until 2022.

Lloydminster was originally slated to host the 2021 games, but Hockey Canada made the announcement May 27th that the U18 tourney will be hosted by Prince Albert. This is so that Prince Albert can retain their hosting rights from 2020, as all spring games have been cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns.

Hockey Canada President Scott Smith said in a statement that the 2020 cancellation prioritizes the health and safety of players, staff and fans, and they’re appreciative of hosting communities working with them to adapt the next two seasons.

In addition to the shifting and rescheduling of tournaments, summer hockey camps will be moved online.  This includes the BFL Canada National Women’s and Women’s Under-18 Team Summer Camp,
The Program of Excellence coach seminar and goaltender development camp, Canada’s national under-17 development camp and Canada’s National Junior Team Summer Development Camp.

Hockey Canada is monitoring the COVID-19 situation and is in talks with local and national health authorities, but December’s IIHF World Junior Championship in Edmonton and Red Deer has not been cancelled.
