Lloydminster completes several traffic signal upgrades

Drivers in Lloydminster should expect some changes to their daily commute, which the City says will improve traffic flow across town.

Crews have updated the timing and hardware of their traffic light system at several intersections on 44 Street (Highway 16.) The move will allow the city to collect real-time data, improving the timing of the lights. They say this move will reduce congestion,  improve traffic flow and be safer for pedestrians.

Over the next two weeks, the City will be using the new system to collect driving data and assess current traffic patterns. People may notice some differences in light patterns or their travel time as that information is collected.  Once the city has the info, the lights will be able to react in real-time.

The intersections which received the upgrades are:

  • 80 Avenue
  • 75 Avenue
  • 70 Avenue
  • 66 Avenue
  • 62 Avenue
  • 57 Avenue
  • 54 Avenue
  • 52 Avenue
  • 50 Avenue
  • 49 Avenue
  • 45 Avenue
  • 40 Avenue

It is estimated that 10,000 vehicles travel the 44 Street corridor daily.
