Designated visitors can now join birthing mothers: SHA

The Saskatchewan Health Authority has eased restrictions on families joining mothers in the hospital.

Now, expectant mothers can have two people along with them during the birth experience. These people, chosen by the mother, can be  partners, family members, coaches, doulas or cultural support persons.

All maternal patients and visitors will have their temperature screened before coming into an SHA facility, will be given a mask to wear and made to follow handwashing and physical distance guidelines. People showing a fever or any other COVID-19 symptoms will not be allowed in, however. Visitors must also stay the same the entire time- one can’t leave so that another can come in.

Mothers will also have the option to have a COVID-19 test swab performed on admission as well. Visitors will not.

The SHA says they continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation and adapt visitation rules around it.
