Alberta motor vehicle services to shut down for four days

Alberta drivers in Lloydminster will not be able to access the province’s motor vehicle services from June 19th to 22nd.

The province is updating their Motor Vehicles System, otherwise known as MOVES. To complete the update, the system will have to fully shut down for the four days.

All road tests or bookings, driver’s license services and vehicle registrations will be unavailable on those days. People cannot get a driver’s abstract either. Paying outstanding fines will be limited to online only.

Minister of Service Alberta Nate Glubish says that he appreciates Albertans’ patience, and this update will allow them to develop programs like online driver’s license renewals, for example.

The province is advising people whose license or ID is going to expire near or on those days to plan to have them renewed beforehand. Drivers with expiring vehicle registration will have until the end of June to renew.

The system is expected to be back up and running by 8 AM on June 23rd.
