Northern Lights School Division suspends all international travel

The Northern Lights School Division Board of Trustees is suspending all international travel for students, staff, and trustees.

The Board announced yesterday that in light of recent world events and a recommendation from their insurance provider, all out-of-country school trips for the 2015-2016 school year have been cancelled.

“This is not a decision we make lightly,” said Board Chair Arlene Hrynyk. “We know many students and parents have worked hard to plan and fundraise for trips and that they will be disappointed that they are cancelled. The safety of our students is our top priority and given the uncertainty that exists in many parts of the world today, we felt this suspension was necessary.”

This suspension will affect several school trips that were planned for later this year, as well as conferences for staff. The board says that they are working with schools that are affected to help them receive travel insurance refunds or explore alternatives.
