Additional COVID-19 case recorded in the MD of Wainwright; nine active cases total

There is one new case of COVID-19 in the MD of Wainwright according to Alberta Health data. As of July 22nd, the new case brings the total up to nine active cases in the municipality.

There was one additional case recorded in the County of Two Hills, making it eight active cases and one recovery in the area. There are two active cases and one recovery in the County of Minburn.

Flagstaff County and the County of Vermilion River saw no new cases. There are five active cases in Flagstaff County while there are two active cases and six recoveries in Vermilion River.

There were 114 new cases reported across Alberta. In the Central zone, there are 161 active cases and 120 recovered cases. Of the active cases in the zone, 33 people are being treated in hospital and seven in intensive care.

There are 1,293 active cases in the province and a total of 8,506 are considered to be recovered.

Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw says the recent rise in cases across the province needs to be taken very seriously.

“This needs to be a wake-up call,” Dr. Hinshaw says. “I am very concerned by these numbers… recently our active cases have risen sharply.”

Hinshaw says current acute care utilization is approaching the highest number of admissions on any single day, which currently sits at 113 overall hospital admissions set on April 30th.
