Bonnyville RCMP recommend residents take steps to protect private property

Bonnyville RCMP are asking the public to protect their property after an increase in crime in the community.

The RCMP say that so far in 2015, there have been 512 reports of theft, and 171 reports of break and enter, a sharp rise from 2014. Combined with an increase in other property related crime, 2015 has seen 1559 instances in the Bonnyville area alone, an increase of 388 from 2014’s level of 1171.

The police say that cases like this are difficult to solve because they get limited information, and recommends residents install security cameras, lights, building partnerships with neighbours, removing keys from equipment and keeping cars and homes locked at night.

If anyone has witnessed property crime in the community, they are encouraged to call Bonnyville RCMP at (780) 343-7200 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
