LPSD implements mandatory masking for Grades 4 to 12 in school reopening

Lloydminster Public School Division is moving to level two of Saskatchewan’s Safe School Plan.

Level two will require all staff and students to wear masks throughout schools in the division. On August 11th, the provincial government provided some clarifications and details on level two.

Students in Grades 4 to 12 will wear masks in high traffic areas, such as hallways and on buses. Students in Grades 9 to 12 may be required to wear masks in classrooms where physical distancing isn’t possible or where students are outside of their classroom cohort.

The Minister of Education Gordon Wyant said, in the update, the decision to implement mandatory masking would be left up to individual school divisions.

Director of Education Todd Robinson says the division is in favour of masking in an interview on August 10th.

“From our perspective, we will do everything we can to try and make sure we’re benefiting from the opportunities that are there to increase the safety and security for staff and students. Mask usage is something we believe in here and we need to work with the ministry in Saskatchewan to help get into a spot where they support that belief and mandate it moving forward.”
