Saskatchewan RCMP are charging three people after the driver of the vehicle refused to stop when asked to pull over.
Officers from the RCMP Crime Reduction Team were patrolling Highway 17 on August 15th and initiated a traffic stop on a white Dodge Ram pickup truck near Highway 797. RCMP say they initiated the stop for a breach of the Traffic Safety Act. The vehicle did not stop and fled from police.
A spike belt was placed on Highway 17 to stop the truck and the vehicle left the highway. In their pursuit, officers saw three people leave the truck and break into a residence to avoid police. The three were arrested in the residence and officers seized a small quantity of cocaine as well as drug paraphernalia and over $2,000 in Canadian currency.
Thirty-four-year-old Lyndon Belly, 30-year old Wanita Harper and 27-year-old Cheyanne Harper are charged with resisting arrest and breaking and entering. Belly also faces possession of property obtained by crime and possession of cocaine charges. Wanita Harper was additionally charged with fleeing from a police officer, driving while disqualified, dangerous operation of a vehicle and refusing to provide samples.
All three were remanded into custody and made their first appearance in Lloydminster Provincial Court on August 17th.
The Saskatchewan RCMP Crime Reduction Team was deployed in Onion Lake from August 12th to 16th to help in reducing gang activity in the area. The team is sent across the province to help in capturing prolific offenders, repeat offenders, gang members and address any public safety issue the detachment area may be facing.
