No one injured in Glenwood Village fire, cause under investigation

The Lloydminster Fire Department is investigating a fire at an apartment building Friday night.

At approximately 9:45 PM, Fire crews were called to a large blaze in one of the buildings at the Glenwood Village apartments on 36 Street. Four trucks, twenty-one firefighters, along with the RCMP and EMS were dispatched to assist residents.

The City says in an email to MyLloydminsterNow that the fire was on the second and third-floor balconies when emergency responders got to the scene. Through an “aggressive attack” from the exterior of the building, the fire was quickly extinguished and damage was limited to the building.

Everyone in the building was safely evacuated and no was hurt. The residents of eight apartment units have been displaced temporarily. The Red Cross and other Victims Services are helping them find temporary accommodations.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, but arson is not suspected.
