Lloydminster area unemployment rates rise in Alberta, drop in Saskatchewan

For the second month in a row, the local unemployment rates on both sides of the border moved in opposite directions during the month of August.

In the Camrose-Drumheller region which includes Lloydminster, Stats Canada reports the unemployment rate as 13.4 per cent, up from 13.1 last month, unadjusted for seasonality. The unemployment rate for Alberta was 11.8 per cent, seasonally adjusted. It is a full percentage point lower than in July.

The Prince Albert and Northern region had an unemployment rate of 9.2 per cent, down from 9.9 in July. Provincially, the rate rose to 7.9 per cent from 8.8.

The national unemployment rate dropped to 10.2 per cent as the economy added over 245,000 jobs during the month. The rate was 10.9 per cent in July.
