AUMA recognizes town of Vermilion and Wainwright mayor

The Town of Vermilion received a Municipal Sustainability Award from the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association for the #Vermilion Online campaign which ran in April.

The campaign promoted local businesses online over the course of a week while also teaching business owners how to use social media to further their business ventures. Economic Development Officer Mary Lee Prior says the award shows recognition to the local businesses who tried something new.

“For some of them, they were a bit out of their element, but it succeeded. We had some recognition throughout the province and we had some comments nationally from different organization that had seen it. I think our community is very proud and innovative.”

Prior says they will be using different aspects learned in the experience in the future as they continue to promote local businesses throughout the pandemic.

Wainwright mayor Brian Bethune also received a Distinguished Service Award in recognition of serving on municipal council for more than 20 years.
