Seminars on Leadership, Resilient Ageing coming to Lloydminster

Family and Community Supports Services of Lloydminster is bringing in a speaker which they say will be helpful to many people in the community.

On October 1st, the City will be bringing in David Irvine, who is a family therapist and lecturer, to host two seminars, one called Resilient Aging and the other being Leading through Disruption. The first one was designed as a way to celebrate National Seniors Day, which is October 1st.

Social Programs and Services Manager Patrick Lancaster says there will be several ideas showcased for seniors in that first seminar, including resiliency and a greater appreciation for the ageing process.

“He’s going to talk about and try to inspire seniors around being authentic in their actions, and really about the importance of being active, and being out there, and how much they have to offer at this stage in their life, and about having [a] connection to the community and to each other is really, really important to their resiliency.”

The second seminar on that day will be directed more at the entire community, especially business or non-profit owners and managers. Leading Through Disruption will focus on strengthening leadership, building trust and engagement with a team and connect with staff during times of chaos or uncertainty.

Lancaster explains that this comes at a time where businesses may need some inspiration getting through difficult times.

“A lot of organizations, a lot of businesses, are adjusting to the situation that we find ourselves in now. With that comes stress and distribution, and we feel that David [Irvine] can some good strategies on how you can mitigate that.”

Resilient Aging will run online from 9 to 10 AM, with Leading Through Disruption following from 2 to 3 PM. People can register online on the City’s website, and if they can’t attend, can view it on the City of Lloydminster Youtube Channel for the entire week after.
