City bumps back down to bi-weekly organics pickup

Lloydminster residents will have their organics picked up twice a month, instead of every week, for the coming months.

The City usually bumps down this collection route around this time every year, to account for a decrease in demand. They say without people having to throw away yard waste, there is an 80 per cent decrease in curbside organics to collect during the winter season.

The City will begin two-week organic pickups on November 2nd and resume weekly pickups on April 2nd, 2021. The move to the twice-monthly collection over the winter is estimated to save around $30,000 a year.

The City adds that each year the program diverts over 11,000 tonnes of organic waste from the landfill, and people should continue making use of it during the winter.

Once winter weather hits, people are reminded to remove their bins from the curb in a timely manner. Residents can also check out their collection schedule on the City’s website.
