Several charges were laid during a three-day traffic initiative in the Battlefords.
Over the period of October 21st to 23rd the Rosetown and Melfort Traffic Services Section performed the program. They worked along with the Central Traffic Services Section, which is made up of traffic units and municipal policing services from all over Saskatchewan. During the time they enforcement was in place, several charges and warnings were given out.
In total, 48 charges were laid for speeding, 15 for having driver or passenger windows tinted and 13 for using a cell phone while driving. Ten vehicles were impounded, seven suspended drivers were charged and two charges for open alcohol and cannabis being consumed in a vehicle were laid.
Eighteen warnings for speeding, eighteen warnings for failing to carry a drivers license, 30 warnings about failing to produce registration and 25 warnings for cracked windshields longer than 2 inches were also given out.
In addition to provincial traffic laws, officers also charged several drivers under the Criminal Code, including obstruction, driving while suspended, flight from police, dangerous driving, breach of probation and possession of weapons dangerous to the public.
The RCMP says these Traffic Enforcement Programs are performed throughout Saskatchewan over a year and have a goal of enhancing safety for all road users.
