Suspects arrested in Maidstone on drugs, weapons charges set to stand trial in North Battleford

An Edmonton couple is set to stand trial in North Battleford on several weapons and drug charges.

Back on February 27th, Manal Ali Fawaz, 25, and Garnett O’Connor, 23 were stopped by Maidstone RCMP  Traffic Unit doing 64 KPH over the speed limit on Highway 16. Police said that after verbal interactions with the two suspects, they began a drug investigation getting a warrant to search the vehicle.

During the search, police allegedly 3,700 single doses of crack cocaine in four vacuum-sealed bags and a loaded handgun in the vehicle. Both have been charged with alleged possession for the purpose of trafficking a controlled substance, possession of a firearm while prohibited, carrying a concealed weapon, and unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle.

A preliminary hearing in Lloydminster had been previously set for October 8th but did not go ahead. Crown and defence agreed to go to trial, but a trial date in the Court of Queen’s Bench North Battleford has not been set yet.
