Kinsmen Christmas Tree fundraiser to start on November 27

The Kinsmen Club of Lloydminster is back again spreading Christmas joy to the community.

The group will be holding their annual Christmas tree sale in its usual spot on the corner of 62 Avenue and 44 Street, in the parking lot of ASTEC Safety Inc., starting on Friday. Fundraiser Co-chair Mark Gerlinsky says they’ve brought in about 830 to 850 trees and demand for real trees continues to hold steady this year.

“We’ve already had quite a few questions in early-November, more now, about whether we’re still selling trees this year. We’re anticipating that it will be, I don’t want to say a quick sell, but easily by December 20th at the latest we’ll be more or less sold out.”

He asks visitors to maintain social distancing, wear a mask and hand sanitizer will be available at the site. Money raised from the sales will go towards funding scholarships for both school divisions as well as their Safe Walk programs and a few other local initiatives.

The club usually raises about $10,000 to $12,000 through the fundraiser. Gerlinsky says they’ve had to increase the prices on the trees by a bit due to general cost increases, but believes they are still in an affordable range for families.

“I think people are looking to get a tree and have a little bit of joy, happiness and something positive in their life.”

Gerlinksy says they will also be introducing a delivery option for residents who aren’t able to drive down to the site. If public health guidelines allow for it, a form will be made available on their website with payments being made through e-transfer. The deliveries will be made on the weekends.

“Our members are quite excited. We all take turns taking shifts and we’re very excited to get it going.”

The Christmas Tree sale starts on November 27 at 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. The lot will then be open from noon to 9 p.m. on weekdays, Saturday from 9 a.m to 9 p.m and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Contactless payment options such as debit and credit machines will be available on site.
