RCMP track stolen vehicle and arrest five gang associates: Maidstone RCMP

Officers from multiple detachments in the Maidstone area tracked a stolen car in western Saskatchewan and arrested five people associated with the Westside Outlaws gang.

Maidstone RCMP received a report of a grey Honda car stolen from a business in Lashburn by three men dressed in red at around 3 p.m. on November 20. The car was seen heading east on Highway 16 followed by a small red Ford car.

Members notified the Saskatchewan RCMP Roving Traffic Unit (RTU) to be on the lookout. The RTU found the grey car and instructed the driver to stop. The car continued driving east, then turned around and headed west on Highway 16.

Lloydminster RCMP and the Saskatchewan Protection and Response Team (PRT) were contacted to help track the speeding car. During that time, the Lashburn Fire Department advised Maidstone RCMP of a report of a small red car on fire, east of Lashburn on Range Road 3250. Maidstone RCMP believe the red car is the same as reported and an investigation into the incident is ongoing.

The PRT spotted the grey car west of the Marshall Weigh Station with it then driving east on Kempton Road towards Highway 303. The car was then found near Paradise Hill travelling west on Highway 3 before turning north on Road 797 towards Frenchman Butte.

Onion Lake RCMP and Turtleford RCMP were notified and Turtleford RCMP set up a spike strip on Township Road 540 at around 4:40 p.m. The stolen car was stopped and officers arrested three men and two women without incident. A search of the vehicle found a sawed-off modified rifle, ammunition, a machete, a BB pistol and several knives.

Tonia Cantell, Juanita Wahpistikwan, Kyle Lajimodiere and two male youths face 14 charges including stealing a motor vehicle, endangering public safety and four counts of possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose. Cantell, Wahapistikwan and Lajimodiere were wanted for arrest in Saskatchewan and Alberta for other charges and will face them at the same time as the 14 charges.

All five remain in custody until the court appearance in Lloydminster Provincial Court on December 3 at 2:30 p.m.

Anyone with information on the red car is asked to call Maidstone RCMP or drop an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers. Anyone associated with a gang and has thoughts of leaving can contact STR8 UP in northern Saskatchewan at 306-763-3001, STR8 UP in central Saskatchewan at 306-244-1771 or Regina Treaty Status Indian Services in southern Saskatchewan at 306-522-7494 for assistance.
