Public invited to view Lakeland’s crop research project

Members of the public have a chance to see one of Lakeland College’s latest research projects up close. The college’s Vermilion campus is offering a tour of its crop research fields today. The project, set up using an NSERC grant from 2013, is used to investigate the cost and benefits of using the latest farming technology. Agricultural Research Coordinator Larry Bingham says this is a solid first step for Lakeland and will set up fields with three types of producers. Base-line producers, who use a small amount of the technology available, medium-intensity users, who use a moderate amount, and high-intensity, who use all the tools available. The project will take place over the next four years, using a variety of crops at different locations around Vermilion. The tour will meet at the Centre for Sustainable Innovation Tuesday at 1:30, and last for 3 hours.
