Local student hitting the auction block in support of Interval Home

A Holy Rosary student is stepping up to build an auction in support of the Lloydminster Interval Home Society.

Grade 12 Hannah Bedwell is raising money so that she can buy blankets for the women’s shelter, with the goal of buying one for everyone currently using their programs. She’s doing this through “The Twelve Auctions of Christmas” where she will be auctioning off a different item every day, and all of that funding going to buy the blankets.

Bedwell says she chose blankets as her donation because it was a small item that can have a larger impact on someone using the shelter services.

“I chose to do blankets because I felt like it’s comforting, and I was thinking that if I was in an unpredictable situation, I’d want comfort in my life, and I feel like it’s an item everyone can use, and at the women’s shelter, the lady also told me that it’s something they can use all year long, and it was a good choice in general.”

She’s already received some community support as well for items being donated to her auction. Local businesses like Richardson’s Jewellery have stepped up to donate a watch to the event, Brixton shoes donated a handbag and Walk’n on Water donated a scooter.

Bedwell says she’s appreciative of all the community support and hopes to get her peers and the community involved as much as possible.

“I feel like we’re really well off with this school and in the world, and where were are in society, and I just felt like I needed to be a help to other people.”

Right now, she is working on a Facebook and Instagram page for the “Twelve Auctions of Christmas,” and plans to make it public in the near future.
