North Battleford RCMP investigating murder after responding to fire

The North Battleford RCMP says they are investigating a murder after responding to a fire in the area.

On January 19th, around 10:30 PM, officers along with EMS and the North Battleford Fire Department responded to a structure fire at an abandoned home on the Highway 687 and 378 junction, about 30 KM east of the City.

Once the fire was put out, crews searching the scene found human remains. The RCMP says the death is being treated as a homicide. The identity of the victim has not been determined yet.

There will be an increased police presence in the area as the investigation continues. RCMP Major Crimes Unit North, Forensic Identification services from North Battleford, the Saskatchewan Coroners Service, and a Fire Investigator from the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency will all be on the scene.

The investigation is currently in preliminary stages and anyone with information, or who may have seen something in the area between 6 and 10:30 PM, is asked to contact The North Battleford RCMP or CrimeStoppers to remain anonymous.
