Archie Miller Arena closes for the season

The City is closing the Archie Miller Arena due to a decreased usage.

The arena reopened for user groups on November 1st. The City says it has been underutilized since the Government of Saskatchewan suspended all team and group sport activities for amateur and recreational leagues on November 25th.

“The Archie is a beloved place in the community for amateur sports, rec leagues and public skating. However, after much deliberation, and taking into consideration there is no timeline in place as to when on-ice group sporting activities may resume, it’s in the City’s best financial interest to close the facility for the season,” says Mayor Gerald Aalbers.

“Throughout the pandemic, we’ve encouraged residents to take advantage of the amenities available to them, and I can assure everyone there is still plenty to do in the community and remain active. The staff take great pride in their work and have gone above and beyond in keeping our facilities safe and clean.”

The City will monitor the usage of other facilities and the ice rinks at the Centennial Civic Centre, Russ Robertson Arena and the Servus Sports Centre will stay open. They will also maintain the nine outdoor rinks throughout the community.
