Water restrictions coming to Vermilion and area next week

Vermilion and area residents will see some water use restrictions next week so that maintenance can be performed.

The Level B restrictions are in effect from Monday, February 22nd to Thursday, February 25th. EPCOR is doing work on a water line, requiring The Alberta Central East Water Corporation to shut down the regional water transmission main.

During those days, water use should be halted for hydrant or sewer line flushing, fleet washing, all fire training involving the use of municipal water and municipal hydrants, and Bulk Water Station work and maintenance of stadium condenser

Third-party water sales are restricted to human consumption only. The town is also calling on people to voluntarily help out by holding out on filling hot tubs, washing cars or flooding rinks while work is being done.

The town says residents won’t see much, if any, change to their daily water service. This is because Vermilion’s water system has two reservoirs with over 4.2 million litres of treated water storage capacity. They will fill that before the scheduled shutdown.

People with concerns are told to reach out to the Transportation & Utilities Department.
